This exhibition presents this development with over 70 paintings and prints by American and European Colour Field painters. The selection of works ranges from the first tendencies at the beginning of the twentieth century, through the heyday of the 1960s, to current approaches to the subject.

What emotions does colour evoke? How does it unfold its effect beyond the canvas? The show, drawn from the Kemp Collection and complemented by works from the Kunstpalast Collection, provides an overview of the diversity of Colour Field Painting and makes Willi Kemp’s preference for this art movement comprehensible, who donated the collection of over 3,000 works to the museum in 2011.
